WOW!

Reality: 67,000 words.
Plus, lots of editing, cleaning up, filling in the plot, developing the characters.

The weather is the same as last week here in Seattle. I read yesterday that this is the second coldest spring on record. We've had our heat on for the last couple of weeks. It's miserable, a real drag, and it doesn't look like it will get better any time soon.

Blah! Mother Nature bring us some sunshine!

WOW!

WOW is my new abbreviation for Write On Wednesdays.

Reality: 63,000. Plus lots and lots of editing. Eyes on the finish line!

The Weather:

As an aside, it's June and it's 56 degrees here in Seattle. Fifty-six is the high temperature. Yesterday it poured sheets of rain. Please, please, please Mr. Sunshine come visit us before we forget who you are!

Write On Wednesdays!

Reality: 50,287 words.

12,000 words for the week.

Next week I'll try to hit 60,000. Plus, I will be working on revisions on the first chapter to workshop in my class.

I'm having a little plot point problem which is slowing the writing. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Happy writing!

Write On Wednesdays!

Reality: 38,072 words.

Approximately 15,000 for the week. Maybe I can hit 50,000 words by next week. I'd like to finish the rough draft by June 7 when my in-laws will be here, I know the editing and rewriting is the hardest, most time consuming part.

Happy writing!

Write On Wednesdays!

Lots of writing, no querying this week. I'm making some good progress on WIP 3 and have given it the name Reality. WIP 1 is named Spin, and the rest remain unnamed. I'll workshop part of Reality this month with my writing class. I took a preliminary run at YA fiction as well and polished up a flash fiction piece.

Update!

Spin: 17,741

WIP 2: 3,205

Reality: 23,136

WIP 4: 10,158

YA Project: 1,279

17,635 words in one week! I'm trying to get some work done before my husband's parents come for a visit in June.

Happy Writing!

Write On Wednesdays!

Back from Jamaica!

Jamaica is the most awesome place on earth. Great food, fun people, beautiful island. I wish it wasn't so far away.

WIP 1: 17,747

WIP 2: 3,205

WIP 3: 6,780

WIP 4: 10,158

Various: 250

Total for one week 7,705. I didn't write on my vacation. Caribbean vacations are awesome, eat the food and leave the computer at home!

Write On Wednesdays!

Writing update!

Redux: Query process ongoing.

WIP 1: 17,747

WIP 2: 2,066

WIP 3: 3,122

WIP 4: 7,800

Finished still untitled short story. Need to edit. 4,000 words.

That's 14,000 words in one week! I wish I was always that productive. WIP 1 has stalled out a bit, having a problem matching the tone with the plot (cheery tone, suspenseful plot) so I've started something new while I consider the best way to tell that story.

Write On Wednesdays!

Write on Wednesdays is dedicated to updating my writing endeavors so I can keep myself honest and track my progress.

What's going on in writing this week?

Deciding which book to work on now. I have three WIPs going, mostly because I'm having trouble choosing. My goal is to get an agent and sell a book. So, as much as I want to write what I like, I need to keep the market in mind.

WIP 2 is the one I have in mind, set in the world of hedge fund trading (I worked in finance for ten years), I think it's timely.  WIP 3 is contemporary fiction and I think it has the widest appeal.  WIP 2 is edgy fiction set in Las Vegas, probably the most fun to write. The nice thing about having three is if I get sick of one I can go to the other instead of complaining about writer's block.

Redux: Done, queries being sent to agents.

WIP 1: 15,560 words.

WIP 2: 1,844 words.

WIP 3: 3,122 words.

Successes?

Honorable mention in Women On Writing's Winter Flash Fiction Contest.

Semi-finalist in Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. (I completely re-wrote that manuscript and think it's a much stronger book now.)

I Laughed so Hard I Cried...

I'm sorry, some times my humor is in bad taste, but I laughed so hard when I read this I had to go reapply my makeup. I guess I find it so funny because I don't particularly like to do things like hike or wear outdoor performance clothes, something I get some slack for (as in get off the couch). That being said, I am guilty of over paying at Asian Fusion Restaurants and eating sushi.

Write, Write, Then Rewrite...

My best intentions are to have an interesting and compelling blog. But first, I need to finish my interesting and compelling novel. So right now I'm in the process of editing, something I've been doing for awhile.

I realize there comes a point with a novel when you just have to say "done", so by the end of this week, I'm putting a stake in it.

I started my novel in March 2007 and with the exception of some time away to let it marinate, I've been hard at work for a year. Silicone, Sedation and the Superficial City is women's fiction, a genre I hope to become a successful author in someday and a good fit for my personality.

So when is the book done? For me it's when the person reading it wants to keep turning pages until he/she gets to the end. When the person reading believes all the characters and their motivations and routes (I like the British use better) for them all the way through. When the reader laughs out loud at some parts and feels empathy at others.

Editing is hard work. People always say "I write because I love it"; well, I write because I love it, I edit because I want to sell it.

I'm almost done then it's off with queries!

If I Blog?

If I blog, will anyone read?

I'm about to find out.

Welcome to my blog. I am a writer of short stories and novels. I just finished my first book, Silicone, Sedation and the Superficial City and am seeking representation from an agent.

I am the mother of a busy toddler and the wife of a busy husband (they take after each other like that).

Nice to meet you!
